I have heard about blogs for a few years, and it seems that everyone has one. Just like almost everyone has a website today. It usually takes me a little while to catch up on the latest trends. It was a while after Facebook started that I finally decided to do that, and now I love it. It was the same with texting, LinkedIn, etc. So, now I guess I will blog. I still need to tweet. That might be next.

So, who is Brad Meador? What is Brad Meador Design? Why is Brad starting a blog? Let’s start with the question of why is Brad starting a blog? When I first started Facebook I simply wanted a place where friends and loved one’s could keep up with the designs that I created. That is certainly still true, but I have decided that I want more than that. As my design work increases, and as I feel that I am getting much better at it, I want more people to see it. Even though I do not believe I will be remembered like Rembrandt or Vincent van Gogh, I would like to be remembered.

I have loved art from my childhood. I used to draw freehand for hours a day. Even though today my medium is digital art, I still love art. I perform my art now on a computer screen with Photoshop and a graphics tablet. I do my page layouts in InDesign. At the age of 40 I went to school for multimedia design and have been totally in love with it ever since. When I learned Photoshop my world opened up for me. Before I went to school, I already new graphics programs, but they were inferior tools. I am not going to name them, because at the time, they were totally awesome and I will not trash them here. Photoshop is the real deal. I have learned a lot about the software, but I probably only know about 20 percent of what the program will do.

I founded Brad Meador Design, Inc. in 2005, right after school, but I still had to have a full time job. My first job after school was in a very small print shop were I did pre-press and graphic design work. I did some work for AT&T and a watch store called Fashion Time. After working there for a year I had to find a job in my first career, because I needed to make more money. I had to pay the bills. I continued to do contract work for AT&T through Brad Meador Design, and also did another catalog for Fashion Time. The Fashion Time catalogs were the most intensive and best graphic design work that I have done, thus far. I was in charge of the pre-press and page layout for the whole catalog, which was 128 pages including cover. The designers would send in their ads and I had to pre flight everything and make sure that they were print ready, and then place them into the catalog. I also had the pleasure of designing a few of the spreads. My favorite being the Accutron spread.

Since starting my company, I have done contract work for a few companies, and I have also designed a lot of personal works that I am quite proud of. Please check them out:

I am planning on doing some blogs that explain the reasoning behind some of my “Making a Statement” designs, and I will be doing a post on “Why the Angels of Brad Meador Design”. I have had people question me about the Angels series, and I would like to try to explain why I do so many of them and why these creations mean so much to me.

Well, thank you for reading my post. Please check back once in a while, because I am really wanting people to know who I am.
